Photography Tips Workshop: a personal perspective

Hope Bridges Society offers useful and well-timed workshops. This fall Photography Tips: Portrait Photography will be held just in time for the holiday season.

Last year’s spring workshop was timed perfectly – just before vacation! I dusted off my camera, signed up for Photography Tips, and prepared myself to get some great holiday pictures.

Photography The morning of the workshop, instructor Kenzie Kettenbach gave an overview of common camera features, and for the afternoon she had a field trip at Kinsmen Park planned for us. She partnered us up to share experiences and to give us each a human subject if needed!  The day was sunny and colorful with ample photo ops and Kenzie not only answered questions, she also gave us the confidence most of us needed to make better use of our cameras.

To underscore the benefits and age-range of appeal of this workshop, Wanda – Hope Bridges’ friendly and efficient Workshop Coordinator, shares this story:

The Perfect Connectionfrom the desk of Wanda Reinholdt

This past spring, I had the opportunity to share Photography Tips with my mom! She is a fairly quiet, reserved lady and I wasn’t sure whether she’d enjoy a photography class. But she was planning her visit the weekend of the workshop so I asked her to come along. She agreed and we were both so glad that she did!

In spite of her hesitation about technology, Mom learned a lot about her camera and for the first time ever she used it with some skill!

Workshop facilitator, Kenzie provided the tips my mom needed and helped her understand her camera. In addition, Mom and her field-trip partner ‘Joan‘ got along like they were old friends!

Joan was warm, fun and encouraging and she helped Mom put into practice what we had learned earlier. Also with Mom’s feedback, Joan enjoyed practicing a few advanced techniques Kenzie had suggested.

Reflecting on the day, I saw my mom transform from hesitant to relaxed, and I believe it was a joy for her to experience the sense of friendship and community that Hope Bridges does so well! As my Mom put it, “Joan was awesome”.

At Hope Bridges, a person’s level of experience or skill doesn’t matter; any adult who attends workshops and projects can benefit.
